Fishing in a Hurricane
September 26th, 2011A great day for a father and his sons on the Fraser River, Jesse and Brody decided to take their Dad out fishing to celebrate their parents 30th. Wedding aniversary, and the weather couldn’t have been worse, besides the 80 kilometer/hr. winds, the rain was coming down in buckets, but these guys didn’t seem to notice the weather as we fished for Pink Salmon and the fish finally began to bite, it was high fives and smiles all around. We caught so many Pink Salmon we actually lost track of how many we released. Congratulations on 30 years together, Happy Aniversary!

A Day on the Fraser River with the Okuma fishing reps
September 24th, 2011The day started out at the Mission boat launch in dense fog as we headed upriver to spin fish for pink salmon. The sun broke through the fog and the copper sky showed promise of a great day ahead.

My guests for today were three fishermen from Okuma fishing products and they brought some great gear to test drive. We started out fishing pink spoons and after a few casts the guys quickly caught on to how softly the Pink salmon bite and started catching fish.

It was nice to see how flawlessly the ultra-lite Okuma rods and reels handled these salmon with ease.

Then it was on to sturgeon for the last few hours, Dave started us off with this fat 4 footer and Greg and Grant followed with a couple of similar size.

We didn’t manage to get any big sturgeon today, but there still out there for my guests tomorrow.

Albertans flood to the Fraser River in search of swimming dinosaurs
September 19th, 2011Our returning Guests from Departure Energy Services joined us for their second annual fishing derby on the Fraser River last Saturday and Sunday. The weather was rainy but that didn’t dampen their spirits as you can see by the grip and grin pictures below. Our days started out spin casting for Pink Salmon at the confluence of the Sumas and Fraser Rivers and then it was off to chase some prehistoric white sturgeon, and as usual, our guides came through for the guests by assisting them with boating 99 sturgeon in total. The biggest sturgeon was just shy of 8 ft. and had a 43 inch girth, wow, that’s fat! All the guests had a great time and the guides had a blast fishing with them.
Thanks from the crew at Ultimate Sportfishing Adventures, Randy, Trish, Bill, Dave, Rod and Johnny, see you all again next year.

Alberta Oil Boys Find Silver in the Fraser River
September 13th, 2011Our friends from Xtend Energy Services joined us for the second year in a row for two days of Salmon and Sturgeon fishing this past weekend, the fishing and weather were great. This year’s fishing trip was a father and son trip so we started off fishing for Pink Salmon in the lower river and the fishing was slow with only a few salmon boated so we decided to head off and target some sturgeon and that’s when the action happened. My group hooked and boated 8 sturgeon in 2 ½ hours and our other boats ended up with around the same catch.
Day two found us at the mouth of the Sumas cannel angling for pink salmon again and the action was hot, we caught so many Pink Salmon I actually lost count! Then it was off chasing the sturgeon again, we struggled in the first few spots then we started hitting the sturgeon just above the Misssion bridge, we ended up boating 5 sturgeon and lost three others, the sturgeon all seemed to be on the smallish size around 4-6 feet, a great fight all the same. The biggest sturgeon caught with this group measured out at 7’-6” to the fork of the tail…..not too shabby.
All and all the guys a great time and we look forward to hosting their annual fishing trip again next year!
Thanks from all our guides, Randy, Bill, Brad, Rod and Johnny, we had super time fishing with all of you.

Ultimate Sportfishing Family Fun Day
September 7th, 2011What a fantastic day for a family fishin’ fun day on the Fraser River. All our guides took the day off from guiding to meet up at Peg Leg bar for the Ultimate Sportfishing family fun day. The sun was out and the fishing was great, good barbeque, cold beer and stories of “the one that got away” were flying around the river bank. I look forward to next years “family fun day” and the rest of this year’s fishing season.
